Our Story

Lakay is wherever the story begins.

Maison Leaf & Ledger is a House of Stories — a Haitian-heritage atelier bringing together stationery, heritage charms, and the rituals of reading and writing into thoughtfully made objects meant to be kept.

The name carries our roots. In Kreyòl, which grew from French, Maison means house — and lakay means home. That is the feeling we build toward in everything we make: the warmth of a place that is truly yours.

Where it began

Our story starts with La Brocante, a neighborhood book exchange in Port-au-Prince — a small, generous place where books passed from hand to hand and every reader left with a new story. That spirit of exchange, community, and discovery is the heart of Maison Leaf & Ledger, and it gives its name to our desk-and-shelf stationery line.

Four rooms, one story

We are building the House of Stories around four connected experiences. Our Stationery Atelier offers tools for readers, writers, and thinkers — timeless, functional, and worthy of keeping. Our Charm Bar is home to the Lakay Collection, a celebration of Haitian heritage, identity, memory, and belonging, told through charms, pins, washi, and stickers. In the seasons ahead, a Literary Tea House and a community Book Exchange will complete the house — spaces for slowing down, savoring stories, and connecting over books and tea.

The hibiscus

The hibiscus — choublak in Kreyòl — runs through everything we make. It is our reminder that beauty, heritage, and home belong together on every page and in every object we offer.

Thank you for being part of our story. Byenveni lakay — welcome home.
